No. 0036
Feb 2005
African
faces on a layered backdrop of cotton fabric, quilted in an ethnic design, embelished
with wool and a scroll design to tie in with the faces. The faces are done in
the traditional mola way. Molas are hand-made using a reverse appliqué
technique. Several layers (usually two to eleven) of different coloured cloth
(usually cotton) are sewn together; the design is then formed by cutting parts
of each layer away. The edges of the layers are then sewn down.
Part
of a private collection in the USA.
