Gretha
was born and raised in the small farming community of Lichtenberg. In the 1960's
the big city beckoned and she qualified as a fashion designer at a college in
Pretoria, South Africa. Starting with an exclusive design studio, the business
was soon built into a bigger design and manufacturing operation, focusing on the
supply of exclusive cocktail and special occasion wear to boutiques across the
country. The early 90's necessitated a change in product and together with her
husband and son, she embarked on the manufacturing of steel and iron products.
A visit to the United States in early 2000 reintroduced Gretha to the world
of quilting as well as the broad range of products available for the practicing
this art form. Armed with renewed inspiration and inspired by a cold American
winter, her first quilt was born. Back in South Africa, Gretha collaborates and
also finds inspiration in dealing with four very special women. A big thanks goes
to Cheryl Burmeister, Marie Pearcy, Mariette van der Merwe and Petro van Rooyen.
